Design Museum of Chicago: Field Days

Design Museum of Chicago’s annual outdoor festival celebrates Chicago’s outdoor spaces through a design lens. Field Day is an annual summer event that brings together thousands of Chicagoans celebrate our environment, culture, and outdoor public spaces. Included in the festivities is an exhibition of flags created by Chicago designers and inspired by Art Design Chicago. The flags were then put on display during Field Days at Navy Pier as well as the Taste of Chicago, a major food festival in Grant Park.

My flag pays homage to the work produced by Goldsholl Design and Film Associates; a shining example of Chicago Design from the “Great Age of Advertising.” I was introduced to their work at their retrospective at the Block Museum in Evanston, and I’ve been a fan ever since. I integrated elements from Millie Goldsholl’s more experimental films with Thomas Miller’s iconic 7 Up rebranding, using the City of Chicago’s branding and color palettes.
