Hyde Park 54th Street Viaduct Project

These are submissions I made for the Hyde Park 53th and 55th St Viaduct Revitalization project in Chicago. They wanted artists to approach this project with a bold and creative vision that reflects the community’s best qualities – its diversity, “small town in a big city” culture, entertainment, and residents. The viaducts connect the east and west side of the business districts, allowing the art to seamlessly encourage movement throughout.

I wanted to focus on the diversity of the Hyde Park community and its welcoming nature for this project. For my first mural panel, I wanted to show the different people who make up the community, and challenge the viewer to see themselves. The second panel is a statement about how having a community connection is extremely important to many Hyde Park residents and business owners, and is represented here by the blending of certain letters in words that connect as well as intertwining lines within the text.
